Fraternity Recruitment Information

Welcome, Gentlemen of the Class of 2013,

The Council of Fraternity Presidents here at OWU, would like to welcome you. Our fraternity and sorority life community was first established in 1853, when Beta Theta Pi first founded a chapter. Over the last 155 years, the fraternity and sorority community here has continued to grow and prosper and today has a rich and storied history. Currently, Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU) supports 8 national fraternities and almost 200 fraternity men.

Fraternity life can allow you various opportunities to grow and succeed in ways that no other student organization can. The fraternity community promotes and provides numerous ways to better the man. Being part of a brotherhood challenges you academically, but also provides a support system. In addition, being a part of such an organization encourages you to obtain the social skills and business contacts necessary to obtain leadership positions here at Ohio Wesleyan as well as later in life. Community service-oriented as well as annual philanthropic events allow fraternity men to demonstrate the importance of giving back to the community as well as to become active and contributing members of society. While we pride ourselves on our accomplishments, we also recognize that there is more to your time here than just fraternity life, and many fraternity men are involved in everything from art exhibits to varsity athletics to mission trips to political activities.

At OWU, the fraternity community recruits new members year round. However, incoming freshmen and transfer students must complete one full semester here before they are permitted to join a fraternity. Each fraternity has a minimum GPA requirement in order to receive a bid for membership. I encourage you to focus on your academics first semester to ensure your ability to join a fraternity.

The decision to join a fraternity is a lifelong commitment. Take your time visiting all of the fraternities, seeing what they each can offer you, as well as the fraternity and sorority community as a whole. The entire fraternity community looks forward to meeting you. If you have any questions about Ohio Wesleyan, the fraternities, or the fraternity and sorority community, please feel free to contact us at our Council of Fraternity Presidents e-mail address.
