Founded at Yale in 1845, Alpha Sigma Phi distinguishes itself as a fraternity "To Better the Man." In the never ending quest to improve the self, the brothers of Alpha Sig adhere themselves to the highest principles of brotherhood and gentlemanly honor. Our purpose and activity as a brotherhood has enabled us to achieve an elite status not only among the local fraternities, but also on the national stage. With academia, philanthropy and service, brotherly love, and good times in mind we welcome you to explore what a privilege it is to grow as a gentleman in Alpha Sigma Phi.
You can be almost anywhere on campus and find yourself in the company of an Alpha Sig. Our house is very well-represented in many of Ohio Wesleyan's extra-curricular activities, such as (but not limited to) the OWtsiders, CLEAR, WCSA, Mortar Board, Student Justice, Residential Life, and numerous departmental honor societies. We also have numerous brothers representing OWU through varsity sports.
Our brotherhood also knows how to relax and have a good time. We host many social and brotherhood events throughout each semester, including such activities as rock climbing at Vertical Adventures, trips to Gameworks Arcade, movie nights at The Strand, football in the snow on The Hill, late-night ultimate Frisbee games, and brotherhood retreats.
Alpha Sig is also involved in many philanthropic events and service activities on and around campus. We strive to not only benefit our national philanthropy, Canine Companions for Independence, but also other philanthropies and activities in the area. Some of our projects include our Annual Servant/Date Auction, helping out at the Arts Castle, cleaning up our adopted stretch of State Route 23, as well as others.
Even though we keep ourselves busy with our involvement in campus activities and service opportunities, we do not forget about the real reason we are all here at OWU - academics. Currently we stand as the fraternity with the highest GPA on campus and have earned that honor numerous times in past semesters.
It is clear that as Alpha Sigs we strive "To Better the Man." If you are looking for undying friendships, unforgettable life lessons, success among the successful, great times, and most importantly -growth as an individual-then look no further than Alpha Sigma Phi. As fellow classmates and friends, we extend our warmest welcome to you all and look forward to meeting you. Our house is right behind Thomson Hall, so feel free to stop in, visit, and make yourself at home!

The Gamma Chapter of Sigma Chi is the oldest fraternity chapter at Ohio Wesleyan University and only the second chapter founded in Sigma Chi Fraternity. It is an organization dedicated to excellence and high ideals and whose goal is to recruit men of good character. At the Gamma Chapter, you will find a brotherhood whose members possess their own "temperaments, talents, and convictions" but still come together to form one of the strongest houses at Ohio Wesleyan. The brothers are involved in a variety of activities on campus such as soccer, track, baseball, tennis, club lacrosse, choir, various student boards, The Transcript (student newspaper), Wesleyan Student Foundation, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Sigma Chi is committed to the values of "Friendship, Justice, and Learning" as well as developing men into upstanding members of Society through our leadership programs, one of which is a national leadership workshop held during the summer.
Another aspect at the core of Sigma Chi is service. Each year in the city of Delaware, the chapter volunteers in the Delaware All-Horse Parade and maintains litter control on a section of Route 36 through the Adopt-a-Highway program. The largest service effort, however, is Derby Days which is part of a nationwide fundraised to benefit the Children's Miracle Network. Each year the fraternity hosts a week of activities and friendly competition among the sororities to raise money for this cause.
With a rich history spanning back to before the Civil War, Sigma Chi prides itself on fraternal excellence. Development of upstanding men is the primary goal of the fraternity. The Gamma Chapter is a cohesive and diverse brotherhood that provides an example of how many different kinds of men can share the common goals of "knowledge, wisdom, and character."

What Happens to My Meal Plan When I Join a Fraternity?
When you join a fraternity, your meal arrangements change. Here's what happens:
- You receive a bid from a fraternity and you decide to join that fraternity.
- You sign up with the Interfraternity Council and the Greek Life Office (Fraternity Status Change Form ).
- Your application is approved by Greek Life and is forwarded to the Residential Life Office.
- Residential Life enters the information into the University's Administrative Computing System; which results in 100% of your old meal plan charged for the semester being removed from and 100% of the fraternity meal charge for the semester being added to your student bill. However, since this process usually occurs after the start of the semester, a manual adjustment is required (either Step #5 or #6, below). This adjustment varies depending on the status of your meal plan at the time you joined the fraternity.
- IF YOU HAVE UNUSED FOOD POINTS FROM THE FALL SEMESTER, these are converted to voluntary food points, remain on your meal card and are available for use at campus facilities. You are charged a fixed cost for the number of weeks in the spring semester that you were on the Universities Meal Plan. You also receive a credit for the number of weeks you were not on the Fraternity Meal Plan (but were charged in step #4).
- IF YOU HAVE USED ALL OF YOUR FALL SEMESTER POINTS AND HAVE BEGUN TO USE SPRING POINTS, you are charged for the actual spring points you have used and a fixed cost for the number of weeks in the spring semester that you were on the University Meal Plan. You will also receive a credit for the number of weeks you were not on the Fraternity Meal Plan (but were charged in Step #4).
NOTE: The above steps assume you are joining a fraternity in the spring semester. In the case where an upperclassman joins a fraternity in the fall semester, the charges and credits are similar to those described in Steps #4 and #6. Step #5 does not apply.
- Therefore, the fraternity, which you have joined, receives an allocation of money based on the fraternity meal charge. The fraternity does not receive your food points. Should the fraternity ask you to purchase food with your meal card on their behalf and you elect to do so, this purchase would be charged to YOUR student bill, in addition to the fraternity meal charge reflected in step #5 and #6 above.
This process does NOT involve those students who plan to join the Chi Phi Fraternity.
